Setting base point for lines "at distance"

I am so bad at Femap... I'm trying to draw a straight line beginning from the upper left point shown in the first image I posted. For the first point of the line, I use the "on point" method to select it. For the second point, I'm trying to use the "at distance" method since all I know is a direction (negative x axis) and a line length. The third image I posted is the line I'm getting.
Clearly, the base point for the at distance method is not coincident with the first point of my line. If I don't know the coordinates for the base point of my line, how can I proceed unless Femap transcribes the coordinates I select for the first point of my line as the base point of the at distance method?

Is your Base Point correct?

When you click a point as Base Point selection there should be Point ID displayed in X Y Z fields, not some values.
