I am fairly new with NX6. I need to know where to set the engineering units (Inches/Millimeters) when working in sketch mode. I thought I had figured it out, but when I turned the sketch into a solid it changed my units from inches to millimeters and scaled my model accordingly. Why does it do that?

You can set this in Customer Defaults, File --> Utilities --> Customer Defaults --> Gateway - General - Part - Default Units (normally the first thing you see when opening customer defaults) Give it a try.

Best regards,

Michäël.

Go to the pulldown:
File > utilities > customer defaults > Gateway (very top)> general > part (tab) > set units to what you want
As a new NX user I should point out something that really helps when finding things:
Help > command finder
If you know the command that was used in another CAD system then enter it here and it should be able to find what you are looking for in NX. Or if you are trying to find the command on a toolbar it will find it for you.

Thanks, I am teaching myself this software and the book hasn't covered this yet. Your post was extremely helpful. Thanks again.

OK, I set the units to ENGLISH/INCHES but everything is still in millimeters. I have restarted the session as it instructed, created a new part, but it is still using millimeters. Any suggestions?

NX part files have FIXED database units. They cannot be changed on the fly and must be determined at the time that you create you part file (note that there is a command line utility which will CONVERT the database units of an NX part file, but this is recommended only when there is a need to do basically a permanent conversion.

However, you can change, for your current session, what units the system is expecting you to enter and which it will report queries (i.e. Info) back to you in. This can be set by going to...

Analysis -> Units...

...where you can select another units scheme or you can even define custom units, such as 'Furlongs/Fortnight'. However, once saved and reopened, the part will revert to it normal units and even when in the custom units mode, the database of the part file is not altered, all that changes is the system will default to chosen units for input and for the default units used in the Expression system or for when doing queries or measurements. BTW, when using the Expression system you can assign specific units on an Expression by Expression basis. There is even support to convert units using expressions by simply setting one expression equal to another, each with different units (as long as the 'Dimensionality' is consistent (Length, Angle, Mass, etc.).
