It is used for coordination purposes to help identify conflicts with other underground trades. Contractor can also use to plan how deep to make trenches.
I've seen very few utility plans that don't include them, so for site/civil work I'd say it's a must have. For inside a building, I've occosionally put one togther for my use to coordinate with structural foundations, even more rare is to include on a building's plumbing plan. Most useful here when sanitary needs to be run shallow.

Thank you for your reply. in my opinion we can make sections for the purpose of coordination.
i used to make the sewer network and manhole profiles with infrastructure for big projects and streets to show the ground level and manhole invert level ,
but what i'm asking about is that we have to make profile for the sewer network around one building or no need?
In my opinion, there are two problems with sections.
1. The are one dimensional, whereas profiles "flatten" the piping into one dimension - so they can "follow" the entire length of piping.
2. Often the scale on profiles are not the same in the x/y direction. The y dimension is typically less than 10-20 feet, but the x dimension can be 100's of feet. So unless you make a section which takes that into consideration, you would have a long section on the drawing.
