Hi,

I am interested in designing up a series of shaftless screw conveyors to convey after centrifuge (25% dry Solids) wastewater sludge and would like to know where to find the necessary calculations for power requirements etc.

I have trawled through the internet and it seems that there isn't too much information about them out there. I was just wondering whether any of the cema publications cover shaftless screw conveyors?

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

Pete.

Do you want to size them or do you want to design them? What prevents you from asking a manufacturer/possible vendor?

In the bulk materials handling world as you get more and more esoteric with the machine you're interested in the less and less freely available information there is. This is because those people who know make their living from designing and selling such equipment and they aren't going to give away their source of income. Further, some information that is on the internet can be a little dubious to say the least!

If you're serious, be prepared to do some real practical R&D to get the answers yourself, not just a trawl through the internet for what others say.

When I had reason to look into screw conveyors for a project I used information Martin Sprocket & Gear and Screw Conveyor Corp. Both have good engineering sections in their catalogs that would probably be of help. The Martin info was in a hardbound catalog of theirs I have and I'm not sure it is available on the net. The SCC one however is available at:

Both companies were helpful with technical questions I had.

I have had further info about this project and it seems that they might just be using us to get a cheaper price from their preferred suppliers so I think it isn't a go anyway.

We are definitely talking about a shaftless screw (i.e. no shaft - screw sits down on UHMWPE liner and has no tail bearing.)

I have also done basic pricing for it and it definitely doesn't look like we have a chance (we got an under-the-table indication on the current pricing and it is pretty cheap as it is).

I would love to do some r&d to develop this product but time constraints never really allow for it - when people want pricing they don't want to wait for months for me to piss around trying to develop a screw conveyor which has been and could be made by numerous other companies around the world.

Cheers for the help though.

Pete
