Hello

Test condition is not mentioned anywhere in the design calculations based on the Mand. App. 2 of ASME Section VIII Div.1, only gasket seating and operating conditions are specified.
Shall we have to check non standard body flanges designed as per Mand. App. 2 of ASME Section VIII Div.1 for hydrostatic test conditions?. Some non standard flanges will not pass for the hydrostatic test conditions if design is based on specified design conditions only...
Please share your opinion.
Thank You.

Not normally done. It is understood that stress at hydro may be higher than design values.

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

I agree with SnTMan. Provided that the design is sufficient, then the test condition is typically assumed to be acceptable. Furthermore, there is no criteria on the acceptability of stresses at the test condition - at least in VIII-1.

Rdb001,
Let’s look at it from a different perspective. If we are to install a Appendix 2 flange on a pressure vessel, the governing MAWP/test pressure will most likely be the appendix 2 flange. Correct?

Yes, unless it is something else :)
