is there any specification for the finishing of shear studs in composite slabs???

can it be galvanized or does it have to be black steel.

Why do you want to galvanize the studs for this application?

If the studs can be shop installed, prior to galvanizing, I don't see any reason why the studs couldn't be galvanized.

For most applications, safety requirements dictate that studs be applied in the field. You'll want to consider the following if that will be the case for your situation:

1) The only way to galvanize the studs will be to metalize them or paint them with zinc rich paint.

2) If you install black steel studs on galvanized beams, off-gassing may be an issue.

3) You may not need to galvanize the studs to get the corrosion resistance that you're looking for. A galvanized beam will tend to share it's protection with small, un-galvanized parts. It's electrochemical voodoo.

The greatest trick that bond stress ever pulled was convincing the world it didn't exist.

there are lots of weld qualification problems that show up when you start including contaminants like galvinized coatings. For the shear stud, the entire stud is the electrode. i don't think i've ever seen a galvanized stud, unless it was a lintel piece that got HDG after fabrication, but if so probably to benefit the angle... i've seen lots of shiny studs that look like they have some level of protection but they are just very shiny mild steel.

Thank you guys . that was helpful.
