Dear all,

I am modelling Shear wall in SAP2000 to perform linear elastic analysis. I have provided shear wall at few selected location in the form of shell element.
The structure is 5 storey, 5*5 bay with 5m bay width and 3.5m storey height.

When the building is analyzed, some of the beam is showing bending moment of 1000 kN-m.
When the same building is analyzed removing the shear walls, the same selected beam is showing bending moment of 300 kN-m.
The selected beam is not exactly connected to shear wall.

Can you tell me the reason for variation in this Moment ?

Additionally, application of shear wall should lead to decrease in moment demand in other beams in the structure. But i am getting exactly opposite result.
please help me on this.

Thanks in Advance.

Maybe the wall makes the building behave torsionally.

Thanks Jason for replying. I have figured out the problem. My model had some mistake. I had stiffened the beam by increasing the moment of inertia using property modifier.
Now the results are consistant.
