It's often used the modelling of shear walls as frames with the properties of the real walls, sometimes aplied with a reduction factor of inercia to simulate the crack state.

If someone uses shells instead of frames to modell the same shear wall, is it possible to aply the same reduction factors? Because that way you also affect the axial behaviour of the shear wall...

I'm posting this question because if you try to model a elevator shaft with reasonable dimensions with frame sections, than you'll obtain a very rigid system that is most likely not compatible with the same model obtained by shell elements in what corcens to section forces and reactions.

Does anybody have a solution?

Under Define menu > area sections, there is an option for 'Set modifiers' which enable you to apply reduction factor multipliers used in the analysis. It's similar to the reduction factor multiplier option available when you Define frame sections
