Sheetmetal part ALWAYS updates when you go to Drafting??

Hi All,

I been noticing the situation where when you create a drawing from a sheetmetal part it seems to continually update.

I mean the first time you create a view related to a true sheetmetal part you would normally expect that.

However when I go back into the drawing it goes ahead and updates the sheetmetal part everytime...WHY???

Could anyone with some good understanding of this please help.

You are right. That is how UG flat pattern works. Here is why:
If you make a change in modeling, you do not have to go to sheetmetal application to update flat pattern. This saves time and a sheetmetal license.

That makes sense, so do you know of a way to turn off this up-date feature.

In my case I am doing treadplates that are used as walkway platform on the top of industrial machines.

These treadplates are about 500mm x 750mm and have 300-500 instances that take literally ages to update. This nearly kill me when I go into a drawing each time.

I was think of something along the lines like the 'delay update' in modeling. Or perhaps there is another way I don't quite know just yet.

I do not know of a way to turn it off. I think it used to be off by default and UG changed it because people did not want to go to sheet metal application every time they changed something in modeling. Your application seems to be uniqe.

When in the Sheetmetal module, select Preferences-Sheet Metal. There is a check box for out-update the flat pattern. We turn it off at times as we burn a smaller hole in then the flat and then machine it to a larger hole in the assembly.
