Thankyou Ben Loosli,
I have Assembly fixture design experience of more than 10yrs, but iam new to Sheetmetal design.
May i request you to help in where to start, which items should i keep as reference to gain knowledge in process.

Contact a vendor that makes your sheetmetal parts, ask for a tour. They usually are willing to help.

Sheet metal design of what? I had a 7th grade shop class to make sheet metal parts that came out with usable crude items. I also have designed a few more interesting items. For some companies material up to 1 inch thick is handled as sheet metal.

YouTube has thousands of videos (probably hundreds of thousands of them) of processes one might perform on sheet metal.

Thanks ctopher,
Yes, knowing the process would be the best starting point to Design. Surely i will visit a Sheetmetal shopfloor.

Thanks 3DDave,
You are correct, i have started in Youtube lessons, helping a lot to know the guidelines and process in Design.

As one of my professors used to say, sheetmetal varies with industry.
To a heavy equipment company, sheetmetal is anything less than 2 inches thick.
To an aircraft company, sheetmetal is less than .062.
Everything above those thicknesses was considered plates.

Yes, Sheetmetal varies from industry to industry by its thickness.
