I have a question for the pressure test equipment capability.

If I want to test a valve with 1000 psi shell pressure, can I use test equipment with 1200 psi maximum pressure capability?

I heard that the hydrostastic pressure tester shall be 4 times the pressure rating of the valve.

Please advise

If you're testing, you must be working to some spec. Post the spec designation, and you might get an answer. Otherwise you might actually try reading it.

4X sounds kinda' high, but not knowing the spec, everythings ...

I'm not sure that a specification is required. For testing I would always check to see if the test equipment is x1.5 the pressure. In your case the equipment is rated to 1500 PSI. For safety purposes you could fit a PSV so that you never max out the hose / equipment.

Almost every valve test standard I've seen lists the shell test pressure as 1.5X the 100° rating of the valve.
