Does anyone have a list of valve manufacturers who have the Shell TAT/TAMAP approval? I am looking for Ball Valves, Check Valves and Globe Valves of DN 25 to DN 80 .

You need to ask and get the list from Shell. A few companies are advertising they comply with the specifications and have passed the required testing. But there are many standards and testing and to know what products comply with which standard, you need to see the current list from Shell.

In parallel, you may directly ask the vendor who wants to sell their valves to you. They should know their own test result. You may not require the complete list of TAT.

Moreover, TAT should be only the starting point. It will help us to know the capability of such vendor. However, the vendor who passed the test may (or may not) make a good quality valve for your specific order. Therefore, you should consider how to control in your project quality plan.

Thanks for the replies.

I did contact Shell directly. It seems valve companies need to invite Shell to do their recommended testing after which they certify them with Type Acceptance Test (TAT) certificate MESC SPEC 77/300. This certificate is valid only for a couple of years and the entire process is very expensive.

The valve manufactures pass on the cost of this certification to us which makes it expensive as well as time consuming.
Here in UAE, major oil companies are now insisting on TAT certificate for all kinds of valves.

I am manufacturing choke valves. I was trying for Shell TAT approval since last 2 years. Tried at Shell UK, Malayisa and India. I am yet to receive confirmation on that who will carry out TAT?

It seems that very difficlut to initiate process on TAT approval.

Thanks DenisSBM.

I did contact HAWA valves. They have the TAT/TAMAP certificates for Ball valves only.
But do let me know manufactures of Check,Globe and Gate..

I follow Shell TAT from 2010 on gate, globe, check through conduit gate valves; i asked Shell if it is possible to view the TAMAP list and they say that is not possible. In order to test the valves you need to do an audit with Shell and then, when you are qualified, you can proceed with type approval tests (TAT). It's expensive and approximately you could test 3-4 valves in a week (depending on size class, type of valves, fugitive emission class and test temperature).
After succesfull test you'll receive a TAMAP certificate (valid for 5 years) with 1 or 2 star rating.

is TAT applicable for check valves??
in PDO OMAN Type acceptance test for the Items is mandatory as per MESC SPE 77/300A. However this requirement shall be waived provided the Vendor complies with the following requirements.

a. Third party Inspection (vendor scope) for the valve inspection / testing.
b. The GA drawings / ITP need to be approved by Company.
c. The ITP shall include the review of soft seat / seal material certificate.
d. 20% of valves in same size & rating (min 1 no of valve.) shall undergo 5 stroke production seat leak test. {Definition of “one full stroke”: The valve & cavity shall be pressurized to the rated pressure and the valve to be fully closed. Then valve shall be fully opened with rated differential pressure (i.e. other side to be atmospheric pressure) This shall be repeated for 5 times and then seat leak test shall be carried out for each seat.}

Thanks Ehtisham

For one of the ADCO projects that we executed, we had lot of trouble identifying and sourcing SHELL TAT approved valve vendors who can give a reasonable delivery.

For future projects, I will definitely offer our clients the 4 point alternative you mentioned instead of TAT approval.

Best,
Kaleem

Btw, yes, TAT is applicable for Check Valves as well.
BFE Italy has the approval. Apart from 77/300 test which is performed one time and valid for a certain period of time, they do 77/312 Fugitive Emission Test for the forged valves.

Ehtisham,
I can only repeat my message:
Go to Goodwin UK or Noreva Germany as they have a wide range of dual plate and nozzle check valves already TAT approved.
This should make Shell happy!
