When wirecutting parts from 8 thou SS Shim in a Can I find they are slightly magnetic
Is there any heatreatment I can use to demag them
Im thinking just a straight anneal will do it
Clamped between metal to stop distortion
Thanks
A colleage said a Demagnetizer wont do it on SS ????????

If the stock is slightly magnetic as received I would look at buying fully annealed shim stock. If you are forming the part from annealed material you could still get come work hardening along with some magnetism.

To get rid of the magnetism you will have to heat the SS part to 1500°F for couple of seconds and air cool. The only problem with this is the parts will have a heat tint, won't be shinny.

You can demag it, and it wouldn't have any residual magnetization, but it will still be ferromagnetic.
A flash anneal will work fine. It will be soft enough that you can easily flatten it afterward.

This material is prob. 301 or 302 and it hardens enough from cutting that it leaves the edges magnetic.

Corrosion never sleeps, but it can be managed.

Thanks
Will look into annealed Shim Stock
And anneal parts I have now
