Shipping Plug Torque Values

We use a lot of plastic threaded plugs with o-rings in inlet/outlet ports of our pumps/fluid motors. We have had problems with operators overtightening to the point that plastic shards are retained in port threads. Also, operators strip caps with steel plugs. Customer no like! We want to devise a torque range that our operators can work to and verify periodically. Also, we do some work with steel plugs and want to develop torque ranges for these as well.

Is there any place I can go for this information? Go Bears!

As Greg said, sometimes the sensible solution is for the engineer to go out in the shop and pick up a tool. This is one of those times.

Take the big wrenches away, or make them turn the sockets with their fingers?

I only joke about this because one time I had an oil pressure sender with a 1/8 pipe end but flats on it for about a 35mm wrench. I snapped that thing off without even feeling it.
