Short circuit inside the ECU of a Diesel MTU genset

I would like to ask about which could be the probable causes of a short circuit inside the Electronic Controller Unit of a MTU Diesel GENSET. A 20 Amp. fuse was protecting the ECU and it was Blown.

Any inputs are welcome.

I suggest contacting MTU, as others have recommended. They may be able to provide more information over the phone in 15 minutes than hours of internet searching will provide. The engine OEM dealer I work for has several people on staff who will assist customers with technical issues such as these. I would hope MTU would be as supportive, especially since the engine in question is no longer under warranty.

The engine ECM communication software/hardware is probably available for purchase, however may be very costly and have limited functionality. If you have several of these engines in your fleet, it may be a worthwhile investment. To reprogram an interlock code on the engines I am most familiar with, a factory password is required. It is not uncommon for customers to bring us their own ECM for us to program, saving on labour and travel charges. We would typically charge about an hour for this, plus the fee to generate the factory password.
