I inherited a drawing and I'm required to add background parts to the sections. I think I have an acceptable approach but I suspect there's a better way.
1. temporarily copy sections to a new sheet
2. delete everything from temporary sections
3. using Edit>Links, locate parent product and open it
4. in CATPRODUCT: temporarily add background parts and hide everything else
5. back to drawing: update temporary sections then isolate them
this is where I start questioning myself
6. create a detail sheet
7. create detail views for every section
8. copy geometry from isolated sections to detail views
9. back to main drawing: make section active, import 2D Detail (not sure if that's the exact operator name), select respective 2D detail from detail sheet and position
10. clean up by deleting temporary sheet and reloading products without background
Is this how everyone does it?
Tomorrow I'm going to try copying the isolated sections right into the main section to eliminate some steps. Even if this worked, I like having the background pickable as a group for fast hiding and line font changes. What I don't like is if I need to update the background, I have to repeat all the steps except 6,7, and 9. Maybe I can stop at step 5 and keep the isolated background sections in the main sheet with some kind of associative position to their respective main sections. Then updates only require steps 2,3 (after relinking),4, and 5.
Thanks for your welcomed criticism.
