Showing parts behind transparent parts in CATDrawings 3

Hi All,

I have an assembly of plastic parts which I am using to draft my CATDrawing.
The front most part is a clear plastic lens of sorts. Directly behind this is a sheet of 0.5mm thickness which has some graphics screenprinted on it. (Think of a similar set up to a watch face)

Am I able to assign a transparency to the lens part only so that the graphics behind are also shown? Currently with 'no hidden' in View Properties the graphics are not visible. I thought maybe using Overload Properties would work, but it simply renders the lines using hidden lines, doesn't seem to actually affect any transparency or opacity of the part.

(I think this is a similar issue to thread560-306645...)

Please upload a screen grab of the drawing view in question and specifically what you are trying to accomplish. The link to the thread you provided sounds like it's discussing simply using overload properties (which would work in the case of that thread - although the author quit responding and never uploaded a screen grab after being asked to multiple times from several users).

You're using the word "transparency" and trying to show "screenprinted" graphics on a part so I might be misunderstanding your question, but if you want to show/modify the graphic properties of a component that is hidden behind another component in a drawing view (in your case some graphics on a part behind a lens) then you have to do the following:

1. Right-click on the view and go to view > view object > overload properties.

2. In the view frame click on the lens geometry (or whatever component is obstructing the view of the component you want to show). It should now show up in the list highlighted. Click Edit. Uncheck Use when projecting. Click OK. Then click Apply in the overload properties main dialog box. This should hide the lens so that you can select the component that you want to show (the part with the graphics).

3. In the view frame click on the geometry of the part with the graphics so that it shows up in the list highlighted. Click Edit. Check Represented with hidden lines. Make sure the graphic properties are set as desired. Click OK. Then click Apply in the overload properties main dialog box.

4. Go back in the list and highlight the part (or lens) that was obstructing the graphic part. Click Reset. Click OK. You should now see the part that was being obstructed as if it were not. You can always go back into overload properties and modify the properties of the graphic part such as line type, thickness, & color.

Hi drewmumaw,
Thank you for the advice, I tried what you suggested and the result is as I desired, I was applying hidden lines to the wrong parts I think.
I will try to post up some screengrabs next week.
