dear frinds

im searching about shrinkage allowance of high cr cast iron. i just found the range of shrinkage allowance of 18-21 mm/m in cast iron handbook. please let me know how i can find more details about shrinkage allowance of high cr cast iron?

Are you looking at asutenitic irons (NiHard), or white irons (25% Cr), or just high alloy cast iron?

I use 2% as contraction value for high chrome irons.

 
"Shrinkage allowance" is just a number.

Unless your casting is something simple like a plate, or a cube, or a bar it will be of essentially no use to you.

Shrinkage induces stress, and stress potentially causes your part to become so much feed for the next pour unless you know how to design castings and molds.

What you need to do is think about what happens as various features start to shrink as the pour solidifies and cools, and what might happen as the resultant stresses act in combination or opposition.

Then ask detailed questions to someone with years of experience running a foundry, like Arun.
