Side load spring design 2

Hi,

I'm in the middle research of "side load spring design".

Can anybody here share any technical paper regarding side load spring design and side load spring FEA analysis?

Wahl's Mechanical Springs or similar texts on spring design from the SMI (Spring Manufacturer's Institute) have equations for approximating force-deflection curves for coil springs loaded "sideways" to their axes.

Previously I referred to mechanical engineering design text book by shigley.. However there is only conical spring attached there. And when I search in the internet "side load spring", there is always in Korean language which is I am not understand at all..

Mechanical Springs 2nd Edition by A. M. Wahl, 1963 pages 70-73.

Spring design and applications by Nicholas P. Chironis 1961 pages 61-62.

However, I couldn't verify btrueblood's post regarding SMI. The SMI Handbook of spring design that I am aware off doesn't include formulations for lateral (side) loading of compression springs. Maybe he refers to a newer version.

Uh-oh. No, israelkk, I was relying on what my chief engineer told me regarding the SMI texts (he claims there is more info in those texts than is in Wahl's). I have the Wahl text you referenced on my shelf.
