Sidewalk Shed Design

Working on a project where span for the sidewalk bridge is to be 35'-0" due to opening requirements for garage underneath. The loads on the posts come out to about 40K each (designing for a heavy-duty sidewalk shed 300 psf per NYC BC).

Any ideas on what posts we can specify for that load. Also the height of the post has to be approx 15 feet to be able to clear the current opening.

Might want to post some sketches/plans/sections. I have no idea what a 'sidewalk shed' is. But as for a 40k load....appropriately proportioned steel or concrete columns will do it.

I think sidewalk shed is a temporary roof added above sidewalk to protect pedestrians from construction. For 40K, for sure steel columns.

Going to need some steel plates and cribbing to distribute that load. Seems like the column isn’t really the issue.

Seems to me your best bet is square tube - something like 5x5
I've also seen some decorative sheds with round HSS
Ive also seen 18x18 lattice columns used, although I cant find these anywhere online

I've never designed these before, but would love to get involved with this type of work
Seems like one of the easier niches, especially in NYC
