@Dik and others who have signature lines...

For me, it makes it annoying to follow posts sometimes - especially when the responses are short as I incorporate the sentence into the response I am reading. Are these really necessary?

See the attached thread...

Anyhow, maybe I am just easily annoyed :)

I don't feel that I must. I was just having a little fun. I'm happy to respect your preference for being "mostly anonymous".

What you really need to do is make the signature line only visible on the first post and then vanish, a bit like signature lines on e-mails.

But my guess is this is too difficult and not really a big issue for the guys running the show behind the scenes.

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

That's brilliant, at least as a partial measure.

Pfft. This couldn't be but three lines of code:

IF POST IS FIRST POST BY USER IN THREAD THEN

ADD SIGNATURE

END IF

Two lines of code really since "ADD SIGNATURE" must already exist someplace.

If we're able to make any changes at all, this should be a snap. I'll take it up with The Claw.

I feel a quest coming on. First to find the wizard...

Lol. Chalk me up as another one that blindly assumed phamENG was of south Asian descent. I wouldn't say this blows my mind, but it definitely is hilarious how anonymity, internal biases, etc. works.

Well, chalk me up as another victim of the bamboozle. I don't know what to believe anymore! [glasses]

Geez Dik, double sig line? I am officially blocking you :)

That's two too many... I'm just thinking of it as a challenge...

Well that is one thing we agree on

I know, these catfishing scams are getting out of hand. Definitely DO NOT send pham any compromising photos of yourself. Been there, done that.

PhamENG, you were never going to get more than my LinkedIn pic from me anyways, even before Koot's warning.

Please note that is a "v" (as in Violin) not a "y".

In Fact, I love Dik, behind his words, there is a KIND/GREAT PERSON
truly I admire him and his advice, you all should be similar (at minimum) to him (in academic way)
..
Remember you all reflect (to other world side) your origins; Canadian, american, French, Australian, ...etc
since we all Engineers, So your words could be great impact on us (positively and Negatively)
KIND WORDS IS BLEASS AND REFLECT HIGH MANNNERS ....

Now that it's public, it won't work for blackmail anymore....

The blackmail is the least of my worries pham.

I had hoped that, after all this time, the prophesy had finally come to pass and we would have an articulate, smooth skinned Asian man to lead the flock to independence. Now that you've been exposed as just another pasty Irishman, it's back to the drawing board. And, as you can see, anarchy reigns.

KootK I'm surprised you didn't go with the timeless art of seduction pose. Gets results!

FYI: I'm still awaiting your one page book report on the Duerr Tome. Single spaced.

I request some help. The kind of help that comes without a lot of awkward questions about why I'm asking for the help. Like helping me move a dead body.

To the extent that there is genuine support here for any of the improvements suggested in this thread, please voice that support if you've not done so already. And feel free to suggest alternate proposals for improvement if you have them.

It is not the case that I feel that this signature issue is uber important. Rather, I feel that:

a) It would be easy to do and;

b) It is becoming increasingly important that some improvement be made to this site. Any improvement.

And no, it is not the site owners that are obstructing this effort. At least... not yet.

I believe that these are currently the options;

OPTION 1) Make it so that a person's signature only appears once per thread.

OPTION 2) Restrict members to signatures of one line or less. Or whatever number of lines we like.

OPTION 3) Force signatures to be visually distinct from regular comment text. Small font and hyperlink blue maybe.

OPTION 4) Get rid of signatures altogether.

OPTION 5) Individuals can turn off the display of signatures in their profile settings. <-- Late addition thanks to EZ.

Let's assume that the options could be had in any combination. #4 obviously makes the rest moot.
