Anyone know of a simple way to get the total force transferred between walls and diaphragms when utilizing response spectrum analysis?

If it were static or time history, I could subtract the shear in the walls above/below the diaphragm. But in response spectrum analysis this isn't quite correct. I would have to extract the shear from each mode, and do the modal combination outside of ETABS, which is doable, but kind of tedious.

Section cuts are good. I like to assign section cuts thru groups. Where you selected the area objects and the nodes where u want the section cut to be used. The other way would be to get the nodal forces for each area object, this will derive the same result as the section cuts.

Thanks rscassar, I’ve been using section cuts for internal forces elsewhere in the diaphragm but was hoping to use a more automated method. I think I will just extract the modal pier forces and recombine in a spreadsheet.

How about the step in the shear force diagram for the wall pier is equal to the diaphragm shear being delivered at that level?

Trenno, that method is exactly what I wish I could do - it's great for static cases. For response spectrum cases its not going to be correct, since you are using forces which have already undergone modal combination and are not necessarily in equilibrium.

That's a good looking website, nice scripts as well.

thanks S&T, I've come across your script before and have been meaning to try it out. It would be a fun project to try and make a plugin out of it.
