Hi all,

using the bishop method for the first time.

F-resisting = [c'b+(w-ub)tan(phi')] * sec(alpha) /

[1+tan(alpha)tan(phi')/FS]

is the formula that I would like to use but I don't know what sec(alpha) means.

I should not be too hard and I hope that someone can help me.

Cheers, Andreas

The secant of an angle is equal to one over the cosine of an angle.
sec(a)=1/cos(a)
