This might be silly but, me and my friend have different understandings. Is simply supported two slab
a. discontinuous at all four edges only or
b. if the shorter direction is simply supported and longer direction continuous, the panel is classified still as simply supported

we're using coefficient method for designing the two way slab (according to BS 8110) and after that the minimum depth to satisfy serviceability is adjusted based on the support condition (Simply supported, End Span, Interior Span or Cantilever). I always did it based on the shorter direction. (For the minimum depth required to satisfy serviceability without rigorous deflection check) but my friend has a different opinion. So whats your take?

The span/effective depth ratio is based on the shorter span, therefore the support condition type is also based on that direction.

I always assumed this meant discontinuous all four edges discontinuous.
