I have been tasked with designing a 30" long single angle member (L1.75"x1.75"x8Ga.) to be used as a beam in lieu of a bent-up cold-form 1.25x1.25x12Ga. tube, and I am curious if anyone has any good references as to how to design an angle (resting on its legs) to take a downward force on the center of the member, aka the major principal axis. I am worried about deflection and the legs kicking out because it is not restrained against that deformation.
I'm somewhat fresh out of college, so any additional helpful tips/things to think about are also appreciated!
