Can somebody please interpret/advise on the following from BS EN 15614-1 in particular the note underlined.
This is in relation to potentially using a PQR done with 141 root and pass(es) and 111 fill and cap to qualify a 141 process only WPS
Para 8.4.1 "For multi-process procedures the welding procedure qualification may be carried out with separate welding
procedure tests for each welding process. It is also possible to make the welding procedure test as a multi-process
procedure test. The qualification of such a test is only valid for the process sequence carried out during the multi process procedure test.
NOTE It is not allowed to use a multi-process procedure test to qualify any single process unless the testing carried out on
the process conforms to this standard
."

Does this relate to Para 7.5.4 Impact Testing? "Where multiple welding processes are qualified in a single test piece, impact test specimens shall be taken from
the weld metal and HAZ that include each process."

You can use a 141+111 pqr to make a 141 only WPS. WPS Thickness range needs to be related to only 141 thickness in PQR.
I doubt you will be able to take impact samples from a 141+111 PQR, as 141 will probably only be used for the first (and maybe second) pass, so you end up with 3-4mm thickness in proces 141. But for smaller thicknesses, you generally don't need impact values.

thanks kingnero. That's what I was thinking but was told otherwise by a welding engineer. It is a bit misleading though. I can't think how both processes wouldn't have been tested to standard apart from the impact test requirement.
So if, for example, I run a pqr on 14mm w.t. and put in 7mm with 141 and rest with 111 could i create a wps for 141 up to 14mm w.t.?

I don't know what is w.t.

but the idea is correct: range for 7mm is 3 to 14mm, so you can write a wps for 141 upto 14mm.

also, you can use this pqr to make a wps for proces 111, but mind that this is seen as a proces with metal backing. you will consequently need mb in your WPS as well.
