Hi,

I do want to ask for assistance if the design can work.

I have a lube oil tank with the cooler higher about 10m. During trip/shutdown, I do want to retain the lube oil inside the cooler and not rundown to the tank. I'm attaching a siphon breaker with restriction orifice for this purpose. I also added a high point with free draining.

The cooler is air fin fan cooler operating at about 17 barg while the tank is atmospheric. There is a submersible pump in point A.

What if I only provide the high point without the siphon breaker?

FYI

The cooler is not a tank but series of tubes.. please be guided accordingly.

so the syphon is happening back through the RO to the tank?

is there a check valve in the line from the pump to the cooler?

Thanks BenThayer for the reply.

For your 2nd question, Yes, as a requirement of API, there is a check valve in between the pump and the highpoint. However, should the check valve be inadequate because it doesn't provide full protection from backflow?

For your 1st question, the line with RO should act as a siphon breaker as the tank is operating at atmospheric conditions. So during the rundown, it should break the pressure in the high point.

However, I'm not sure with the design as it is my first time to encounter design something like this.

Many thanks,
