Please somebody tell me what a red infinity symbol (looks like a sideways 8) attached to a sketch dimension is telling me?

Albert,

It means that dimension is linked. Look up Shared Values in SWX Help. It is very handy.

All I did was I added a chamfer dimension to a sketch. I didn't link it to anything. strange ? SW09.

In your part file right mouse click on the dimension and take a look at the choices. Right under the bold header that says Dimension. . . (and lists the particular dimension you are highlighting) there will be the option to Link Values if it is not already linked or to Unlink Value. If it is linked the link name will appear in the dimension description in the parentheses so you'll know what it is linked to. By your description you have something inadvertently linked and may want to Unlink it.

a sketch chamfer links the two values by default, ie .10(link) x .10(link). when you change one, the other will change with it. A chamfer feature creates two independent dimensions, ie .10 x .10 which are not linked.

applejack,

I did not know that since I almost never use a sketch chamfer. It is good to learn something new (but I'll probably still not use a sketch chamfer).

The links are automatically generated when the Distance-Distance & Equal Distance options are used.

THe links also show up in the modify dimension dialog or on right click menu.

Links can also be made between model and sketch dimensions with link value option
