In an assembly when one of our users makes a component the work part and then trys to open a sketch, all that you can see are the dimensions within the sketch but none of the geometry is visible or selectable, however if you make the component the displayed part, there is no problem. This is true for all components in all assemblies but only on one computer so I reckon it must be a setting he's modified without knowing.

Can anyone help please.

I guess what you're seeing looks a bit freaky, but I doubt it is a problem. Most people probably avoid doing this especially when working with sketches simply because it is a fairly inconvenient way of editing your models.

The likeliest answer is that it is because the sketch is not part of the reference set that is displayed. So there is a setting under preferences assemblies that will change the reference set to entire part whenever you use the make work part function. For most people most of the time the result would be undesirable, but if the way you build assemblies and your site standards will allow the by loading your parts so that components appear on their original layers then it may be tolerable. When loading parts on original layers and editing via make work part you'll then have to remember to make the layer where the sketch resides selectable. You would want to look into that if my first guess doesn't work for you.

Best Regards
