Normally I don't work directly in converted files but the need to sketch in one had me climbing the walls after using the command line conversion program to go from millimeters to inches, the sketch units were still in millimeters.

Below is an old link but still relevant. I would be hard pressed to say how much of a valuable resource cowski has been in solving problems and customizing NX.

Some more fun with units:

You can change the default input unit for sketch length expressions by changing the analysis units (menu -> analysis -> units) before creating the sketch. If, for instance, you are working in a metric part but want to create a sketch with inch units; first change your analysis units to lbm-in. All the length units will now default to inches; existing sketches will not be affected (be sure to switch the units back after creating the sketch). Changing the units in this menu will also have the effect of displaying measurement results in the chosen units. It looks like the units menu has changed a bit in NX 12, but the option should still be there (I've not tried it out in NX 12 yet).

You can create expressions with dimensionality (length, area, angle, etc) and units (mm, in^2, degrees, etc); you can attach different units to values supplied in the expression formula and NX will convert the values for you. To do this, enter the units in square brackets immediately following the number; NX will supply a drop-down list of values to help you choose the correct unit abbreviation that it understands. For instance, if you have a length expression in mm, you can enter 1.23[in] for the formula and NX will convert the 1.23 inch value to 31.242 mm. Remember that all sketch dimensions are driven by expressions so you can enter known lengths using any units that are convenient while sketching.
