sketcher elements changing color?? 1

See attached file.
When working in sketcher (V5) I notice everything is normal when dimensionally contstraining 2d elements in order to create a pad for example. And then the dimensions turn black and the background and 3d geometry turns darker.

Has anyone seen this before and how can it be prevented?

This is the way CATIA V5 works when you apply color to part instances in an assembly. If you open the part in it's own window, the color will be normal
