Sketcher Question

NX 7.5.5.4

I'm working in small assembly of about 10 components. Usually, when I want to make a quick change to a component, I'll make the component the work part, right mouse click on the feature and select "edit parameters". The embedded sketch dimensions appear and I change the desired dimension. However, for a couple of the components the embedded sketch dimensions do not appear and I have to select "edit sketch" instead. If I make the these components the display part, the embedded sketch dimensions will appear when I edit the feature. Any ideas why the embedded sketch dimensions will not appear for these components when they are just the work part??....Thanks,

I'm guessing : different Layers ?
Different "layer treatment" on the component in the assembly ?
