SKF vs. FYH pillow Block bearings

Hi All:

In our AHUS we have been using SKF pillow block bearings since opening, almost 6 years ago. Recently one of my managers came and pitch me aa suggestion to use FYH bearings instead.
I never worked with Japanese brand so I don't know exactly how these stack up against SKF's.

Anybody already worked with this brand? What is your opinion?

Did you ask why?

We have had awful experiences with SKF pillow block bearings. They're noisy, sensitive to overheat, the o-rings used to drive the seal sleeves fail and they make a god awful racket, and they're a pain to service as they require removal of the shaft.

Cooper bearings are the bee's knees if you can afford. I think Timken has developed a parallel line of split line shaft bearings if you prefer.

It doesn't help that our first SKF shaft came book-ended with axial bearings...

I was told that in this region, FYH bearings have a more extensive sales network and they are typically stocked by the local shops, while SKF's are not so common.

Be sure to check the technical info between both brands as you will most certainly find some slight differences in the dimensions. See www.northwestbearings.co.uk who have a great website.
