In my space frame model I did not incorporate the slab element but instead I have it as a floor loading equivalent to its weight. Is it necessary to have the slab weight distributed to the supporting nodes in the seismic loading as joint weight? Is it not redundant? Considering that by principle (if I'm correct) all the floor loadings will be transmitted to the columns through the beams passing through the common nodes.

Likewise with the member weight command in the seismic load defination.

Please explain more. I1m new to STAAD. Thanks and regars.

You have to use a feature called FLOOR WEIGHT or ELEMENT WEIGHT under the DEFINE IBC .. command if you wish to have the slab weight considered for IBC weight calculations. In the absence of these, the only other choice is JOINT WEIGHT.

If you send this question to the STAAD Technical support group (support@reiusa.com), we will be happy to send you an example.
