.sldSTD problem

Today I consider the sldSTD a form of disease. For some reason I have never had my custom templates not use the existing standard I developed for 8 ½” X 11” drawings until SP3. I didn’t even know about the .SLDSTD template until today. My VAR has very little knowledge about this also.

I need to extract my old defaults from parts, assemblies and drawings to make my custom standard. How can this be done?

I have a folder with my default templates for SolidWorks and have put a .SLDSTD file in and have set the reference to look there but it still seems to revert to the ANSI standard. How do I make a custom standard file stick?

A drawing template contains all the settings that make up a standard. You can save out a standards template, but new files will not reference that template by default. You need to open all your templates, apply the saved .sldstd file to the template, and save the template again. It's just like a sheet format.

Actually there is a problem with the drawing template standard as implemented. It only took me 8 man hours to finely get the problem address with two SPR's.

1-3795057238
SPR 714488 "'system option_file location_drafting standard' apparently doesn't produce any result"

1-3794224991
SPR 714486 "SW, opening old files, it is not able to show customized drafting standard as “ANSI/ISO etc.. –CUSTOMIZED”"

It will be interesting to see how long or if this is even addressed. For my small company the workaround is semi-painful and time consuming and actually affects about 30,000 files.
