At the risk of being insensitive, is SlideRuleEra still around? I was trying to access this morning and that site appears to no longer exists. I don't suppose anyone created a copy of all the data that was there?

Please note that is a "v" (as in Violin) not a "y".

Continuing in the grand tradition of badly labeled threads and thread hijacks, I kind of wanted to see if anybody wanted to discuss the state of FAQs on this forum. In that there are virtually none, and particularly in the general discussion forum there are at least a few that really don't belong. (Question on ETABS and that odd uncategorized one about is it a cantilever question, I can't even really tell).

But more broadly, I've been trying to add some things to the FAQ as they come up, largely links to articles, particularly older information like older building codes, both in the general discussion forum and the steel and concrete forum areas. Mostly steel, I suppose.

But if anybody had any thoughts on that, there's always the "send a message" option in the FAQ entries, which will get to me, and which will keep "feedback" out of the main forum. If people had ideas on things that were worthy of an FAQ entry, I read a fair number of the posts in the general discussion zone, but the steel and concrete forum zones are super dusty and dead. Feel free to send comments via the FAQ pages.

Lastly, a note of caution, the web site people are not responsive when it comes to FAQ deletion requests. It looks like there's at least some flexibility in reassigning them to a different category or wiping them clean to make a totally different FAQ, just so folks know.

That's why I've never gone into management... I prefer the 'trenches'. I cannot even balance my chequebook.

As a side note, you can't upload attachments or images to a FAQ on this web site.

That may be true, but you can upload documents to the site and post the link to the documents in FAQ. That said, you do need to pay attention to copyright infringements; those are not tolerated.

I haven't uploaded anything, but that is a workaround, for images as well, what I've done so far is just post links to things that at least appear to be legit web sites. Many of them are quite old, others are newer but they are just links to where they are on the publisher's web site (Modern Steel Construction, AISC.org, etc.)

If you do go the actual post route, eventually the site will lock the thread and then you won't be able to edit it.
