What are the pros and cons of specifying slip critical connections for bracings in industrial pipe racks exposed to weather(+90F summers to -20F winters) not a seismic zone, with high winds?

None that I can think of.

Slip critical is not affected by the thickness of the plies. So if you're close to the design limits for bearing connections, you'll need to thicken the connecting parts. This might end up increasing the member sizes and impacting the entire design.

[li]Code requires Slip Critical Connections in certain cases, such as in significant load reversals or wind loads, etc. Can that be interpreted to apply to a pipe rack exposed to weather?[/li]
[li]Being out in the open, how much corrosion should one expect to the faying surfaces?[/li]
[li]Given the above, it is practically advisable to have SC connections for such a structure[/li]

I see no reason to have SC connections in such a case....please share your take on this.
