Slope reading problem 3

i have this structural technical drawing that indicate
57.504 - 8 IN 12 SLOPE
can you explain to me what is the meaning of 8 IN 12 SLOPE please...

Usually when slopes are designated "x in 12" it means x vertical by 12 horizontal, so 8V x 12H.

I agree with the above - from a structural engineer's point of view, but geotechnical engineers typically use 3 to 1 as 3H to 1V! This is one reason that I always put the H and V adjacent to the number - there is no room for misunderstanding!
