Hi, I am trying to run some panels with a high intesity of 30 x 5mm slots. The material is 0.9mm galvanised steel, and the program is being run on a bystron byspeed 4400 3015 with N2 cutting (provided by a N2 generator).
The problem is that some of the slots are not being cut out because of floating slugs causing the head to raise and lose cutting focal position. The slots are around 3-4mm apart. Can anyone help? I have tried different programming sequencing with little sucess.

Johnny,

Where are you located? Try either using micro joints or "separating Lines" in Bypart. If the version you are running does not have separating lines, program them in. Those lines will dice up the slugs before processing the contour.

Henry,

The company I work for is based in Lincoln, United Kingdom. The programmers have diced up bigger slugs with reasonable success but complain of how long it takes to program them in. Are you saying that in bysoft there is a seperating lines function?
Thanks for the reply

Jonny

Yes there is, Johnny. What version of Bysoft are you currently running? Does Pullmax still cover the UK for Bystronic?

We had the same problem with 15x2.3 slots, Bysoft does have a feature to divide slots but we found it too time consuming to use as we did Bysoft in general. The Bystronic Engineer seemed quite pleased with the fact that it ONLY took an extra 7 minutes to divide one in three of the slots on one component. We went back to Radan which we used for our previous Amada laser and both our punches. We ended up tagging the slots in at the inside of the radius, a pain to get out but no more so than the last but one slug sitting up and making a mess of the last one.

Kendalsimon,
are you in the UK as well? What I tell customers is when they have a lot of slots like that, they should make one with the technology/separating lines and copy it as needed or to series the contour out. If possible, sequence all destruction of the slugs first then the contour. This does not mean it is the solution for everything or means it may save you time in programming.

yes Henry, UK also, the job was a bit of a fancy thing for an exhibition which (thankfully) never took off, I have an idea to use a "7" shaped cut in the centre of the slot to keep the initial pierce away from the edges of the slot. The vertical of the "7" would be the initial pierce going from the middle of the slug at an angle to the outside edge, then horizontally across to the other side and round the profile. I will let you know how it goes
