Hey, I was wondering if there is a way to make the mouse rotations of the screen smoother. Seems like I remember that in the past a few versions ago, it was a lot better and you could make finer adjustments.
I am using Creo-2 version 5 (which wasn't really Creo-2, but more like a missing link between the two).

Are you using WF5 rebranded as Creo (which really isn't Creo 1 or Creo 2, just a Creo splash screen on Wildfire)?

I'm still on WF4, I was not aware of WF5 needing more graphics power. Creo 2 does require a higher level of OpenGL so if you are actually using Creo 2 then a graphics card update is probably in your future.

From the PTC platform support Creo2 hardware notes:
Graphics Information
For 3D-hardware acceleration, an OpenGL graphics card must be used that has been tested in a PTC-certified configuration. To ensure the compatibility of a graphics driver with Creo 2.0, a PTC certified or supported hardware configuration is recommended. [highlight #FCE94F]Graphics cards that support at least OpenGL 3.1 are recommended for Creo 2.0[/highlight].

Treddie,

Your best bet would be to check with your mouse driver and dial down the settings for # of lines to scroll per wheel rotation If it's dialed up to 5 instead of usual 1-3 lines per scroll that may be causing the issue.

Or you can get a mouse that has a smooth scroll option. Some are set for very fast spin rates like an Excel Scroll.

I don't know of any Proe Creo specific config.pro options for you but the Mouse Driver settings should solve the issue for you.

dgallop > Yah, it's W5 with the Creo Splash.

I'll check into OpenGl and see what I've got.

mjcole > My mouse is very smooth in other programs. It' just W5 that has a problem. It's not the scrollwheel so much as its middle mouse button function...When it is pressed, rotations are quick and all, but when I want get really close to seeing a datum plane on edge, it usually can't do it. It jumps to either side of it. The only option is to set up a special view for that angle, but that is a waste of time when you just want to check something really quick without having to go through all of that.

Space balls are a nice option. You can spin, pan & zoom with your left hand and mouse pick with your right hand (or vice versa for lefties). They adjustable sensitivity and have programmable buttons. I've got a really old one, not even supported any more but I've had a driver stashed away that continues to work.

Yeah Dan good tip RE:Spaceballs/SpacePilots are excellent

I'd recommend them to everyone. I started using the Magellan 2button version about 10yrs ago. Using it to navigate a large Catia V4 Drawing while on a Conference Call with "C4" and other grid locations being requested from me. [infinity]

I also probably have the device dgallup mentions is it the 5000 model. Always keep old drivers. Instead of splitting your CAD time between orientation and modeling you can SPZ spin, pan, zoom on one side while sketching or modeling features with a mouse, trackball, finger etc. They also come in handy for pdf viewing and working in other programs. The newer ones are nice but if you don't want to customize it too much they make a 2 button version called the Space Navigator which is pretty cheap around cost of a mouse.

I think the term that comes to mind or is used in driver software is AutoZoom/AutoScroll usually the default setting because not all mouse users use CAD let alone 3button Mice. "Middle Button: setting usually fixes these problems.

"Remember when a 3button mouse was not the norm?" [ponder]
"One day well be able to see someone on Antiques Roadshow with a corded 2 button mouse from the late 90s" [lol]

Hope this wasn't TMI at least this type is not awkward.

dgallup thanks for the config correction on the other topic. Do you remember the wording for
2_button_mmb_support || Yes/^No

I never warmed up to track balls. Especially with my left hand. :)
