Snap behavior in sketcher

When sketching a line or contour in a tight area I can't seem to place it where I want without it snapping to an inferred constraint. If I turn off inferred constraints, at least I don't have to go and delete that particular one, but I'd rather be able to turn off this snapping behavior temporarily. Is this possible?
Thanks

Hold down the 'alt' key while sketching to temporarily disable auto constraints.

Thanks, I would have never gotten that on my own.
I've played with the auto constraints tab, but that seems to be specific to selected curves. I never found a setting for turning it off.
Thanks again.

ray, when dimensionally constraining your sketch; HORIZ. and VERT. dimensions infer a directional constraint. Generating additional geometry to use Perpendicular is the only way I have found to overcome that limitation.

I think I know what you're talking about. I once tried to constrain a set of lines that were one or two degrees off horizontal using inferred dimensions. What I wanted was parallel and it worked on one but snapped to horizontal on the other and I didn't catch it. It wasn't caught until 1st article. In situations like that it's best to force a dimension like perpendicular or parallel.
