Dear Folks;

I am working on a enclosure which needs to have 2 snap hooks to hold it together. These snap hooks need to be released by pushing a screwdriver blade into a recess into the enclosure. I am using SolidWorks 2008 to create the model.

Does anyone know of any source where I can find a suitable snap hook to accomplish what I need. A link to an part using this feature would be great or a reference from a technical manual.

Many Thanks

Adrian D.

And for real live parts to study, look under the bonnet or dash of any modern car.

Adrian,

Solidworks has snap hooks that can be created with just a few clicks. This doesn't mean they will work though.

From doing this a couple of years ago, the best source of info was Bayer's ATI 1119d,e which is on snap fit design. I can't find it online easily at the moment, but this is the best document there is for this kind of thing. I have a request in with Bayer to put it back onto their website.

Once you are getting close on your design, and have some understanding about what is going it on, put the design into FEMSnap etc.

Have a bit of a look into how to tool clips etc without side cores, and also look into some of the clip designs eg the U-clip, as often it is hard to keep the strain low, and get good engagement. Build prototypes also, as they are generally hard to tune once tooled.

Cheers,
Craig
