Snap problem

I have deselected endpoint for snapping on to and yet it still snaps on to them. Running 2011 AutoCAD. What am I not clued onto...I have reference lines in the back round that I trace around but these are locked and have no terminating point near the places where I want to select.

do you have high coords?
Which Osnap do you get? The square symbol for endpoint?
Z-axis ok?
Can you attach the dwg? Downgraded for 2006?
