Dear tank builders,

API 650 states soap solution to be used as leak detector on vacuum box or air test.

ASME Section V article X states using household detergent is forbidden for leak detection.

Soap solution different with household detergent ?

Any comments ?

Vastly different.
There are commercial soap solutions, liquid dishwashing soaps, party bubble soaps, etc.
By far the commercial products are more sensitive, reliable and expensive.
Party bubble solutions work but are not consistent chemical solutions.
Liquid dishwashing soaps (Dawn, etc) work pretty well but are alkaline and may promote corrosion.
For tank bottoms it may not really matter...

Dear IFRs,

Thanks for you comments.

In my country , soap solution could be the one that used for wash dishes in the kitchen or the one in bath room.

Detergent is a powder the one that used for washing the clothes.
