Does anyone have any advice for how to perform a calculation for soil-cement arch as lagging? All of the papers I can find on it just briefly mention it and show the image from the Pearlman & Himick paper, but no one discusses performing a calculation.

I would estimate a compressive strength of the soil-cement, then back out the geometry needed for an arch to work. Or estimate a flexural strength of the material and do a calc similar to that for wood lagging, again backing out the minimum section needed

I would use the same approach that dcarr is suggesting: compare the flexural strength of the soil cement element to a wood lagging. I would also not rely to much in arching since the soil cement elements are much more stiffer than soils and they will “attract” more forces.
