I am working on verifying initial facing design for a soil nail wall. I am using FHWA GEC 007.
My Design Parameters:
hi= 6"
Sv=sh=5'
WWR= 4x4 W4xW4
2 #4 Waler rebars
I am looking at the following equations to calculate the bending resistance
mvm=avmfy(hi/2 - avm fy/1.7/f'c)
I get values of 4.4 and 5.17 respecitvely. I used those values to calculate my Rf ( Nominal bending restistance) to get 153.7 kip. The value appears huge compared to the example used in the manual.
I have been investigating the equations, and I noticed 1) it is a replica of Mn=AS fy (d- As fy/b/1.7f'c) and 2) the units don't add up
yet if I inserted b into the equation, still my numbers are large. I wonder if anyone have an insight of what could possibly be wrong?
