am design a vertical shotcrete wall 8m or 26ft deep. For the first 2m (6 ft), I encounter soil and below weathered rock to fairly sound rock at 8m.
I am just confused over the followings.
1. Difference between soil nails and rock bolts as I am using SNAIL program procedures. Both have bearing plates and tightening nuts.
2. In rock faces and shotcrete, some just use dowel bars with a hog end. Question is how to design them and where can I find book references to such design?
3. It seems that the approach to the design by Mining Enginners and Geotechnical Engineers for rock walls are different. Mining Engineers based the design empirically using rock quality but why can't the Geotechnical Codes adopt the same method as rock bolts are pioneered by the Mining Industry?
Thanks for all your comments
