SOLFWARE, WHERE TO BEGIN 1

I am looking for the all time answer to a question.

If I was going to get into understanding what some one is doing in a c program and the guy that program this thing died. where would I begin to start my learning process, understand his program, so I might pick where he left of, keeping in mind that I am not a progrmmer, I know a little bit of basic and need a qbasic program whic i can not found. help!! I have a computer at work that runs c 1.1 and is used to test solidststate relays off of a linked test bed, I've got not choose but to learn this thing. But have no cue as to where to start. help.If you guys got time I sure could use some advice. madscidbc@aol.com

I assume this is panic time, so get yourself down to your local computer store and browse reaaaallllll hard. I have used a series of books called "The idiots guide to ....." fill in the subject. Here I would look for C or C+
I have used a search on the net for visual basic and got some hot tutorials. That sit was called VB-world. Search under "C tutorials". Sorry I don't have any tips in C I never have got around to that one.

Cheer up! You have some knowledge of the Qbasic, which should be very helpful to C programming. The C is more fundamental and useful language than Basic with various variants, C, C+, C++, however, all are useful for PLCs, relays, etc. in technical field.

I want to thank don01 and jabtos for responding so fast and you both where right on, I am in the panic mode. I am the only tech eng on a floor of some 140 women, none of them pretty, I've more project then the white house has criminal records hahaha, only one thing to do, it them up one at a time and take the heat for 10.50 and hr. anyway I've got several books on QBasic and C for dummies , This program of his is like a spiderweb it gos everywhere, there seems to be not point of orgin to start from, it got to start some where, if you know where I can get a copy of Qbasic let me know, I've the feeling that where I've got to start. Thanks maybe If I can get the other question answer I can work on two problems at the same time. Thanks again.

beware your predecessor may have written this as a modular program. In which case it will be a jumble of subs with little meaning unless he has invested in lots of comments. highly recomended by me- doing this has saved my bacon so many times on soft I've written myself!!!!
To get qbasic trying going to tucows.com ( a very good share ware and freebee site) I seem to remember it there.
If your up to speed with qbasic why don't you use Vbasic or something like Turbo basic. A Jbartos said I remember qbasic as - pardon the pun - very basic and some of the newer basics have some pretty mean capacity
Oh another thought:-
qbasic will be in any old dos distribution disk,
If you have a newer version of Xcel or word have a look in there vbasic will be invoked from the Tools ~ macro area. Xcel with vbasic is a neat way of doing calcs.

If I were to look at the source code I would try to find the main program. Somewhere you must find something like "void main() {" . This curly bracket must be closed by "}".You also must find at the very beginning of the source code some "include ????" statements. Here the ???? just mean some predefined words. You should find many other things like int name( ****) or how ever the function is called. The **** simply arguments of the function as the subroutine is called in C or C++.

don1 , kep: thank you very much for the info, this is what i was hope you could do for me. as soon as i can found a san quite conner which my shaddow has already given up on and left the building for the nearest outback for some r&r while the howlers are bring the new year with an english rack trying to figure out how each one can have a small piece for there on department. But the Madscidbc will prevail just like the postman and a captain of a ship. I must ask Why am I so deadicated to a D challenge.
