Solid Edge Extrusion

Hi,

Wonder if anyone can help. Got a copy of Solid Edge ST4 from uni (they are too cheap to upgrade to st5) installed it and for some god awful reason it hates me. Whenever I'm trying to extrude it is FORCING me to extrude in two directions. Driving me mental! When i do the first direction its fine but then when i type in the dimensions it goes into the next direction.

Any one seen this before or knows how to fix it?

When extruding, on the Smartstep ribbon, click "extrude - symmetric extent", this will un-select it!!! Got me for ages, thought I was going insane.
