Hi to all experts

My office use Solid Edge ST2 to design some sheet metal project, that`s look excellent, but problem occured when guy who should manufacture this use Solid Edge V19 and can not open these files. Tried to convert to .iges, than back to V19, but can read just .part files.

Any tips?
P.S. Sorry `bout my English

First you will get better result using parasolid to convert your files to an older version. Secondly to have it as sheet metal you need to open the parasolid file or the .iges files with a sheet metal template. You still won't have anything in the feature tree except a solid body in either case.

I hope it helps

PatCouture thanks, that`s why we have you experts to open ours eyes...
...and can i save those as some solidworks file, convert them to sheet metal in sw and open them somehow in v19?
thank you again

The best you can do is probably as Pat says. I doubt adding another conversion to SW will help much, may make it worse. You still wouldn't have a feature tree in V19.

If you have trouble maybe you could try 'convert to sheet metal' but I've never played with that.

Pat is spot on - use parasold.
Going through SW will not help.
However, make sure you save as a version of parasolid that V19 can open. Your manufacturer should be able to tell you what that is.
If he's not sure then he needs to open a model go to
'Save As' then Options. He will then see a list of versions.
You will need to do this and match that version when you save your files.

ooook guys...problem solved.
Winning combination is the mix of all of your tips.
Forget about ANY Assemblies, that going down the sink, but save as much as you can. So, your work (.part or .psm) save as parasolid for previous version can open. Sheet metal part are opening as .part so u have to "convert to sheet metal part" them,(file by file), which is going very well and fast eather. Do your assemblie again. Hard work for months to create something is not completely lost, but u must do assemblies again...that`s sucks.
If someone find better way to do this sheet:) - please share with us mortals

Best Regards to all interested

If you save your assemblies in parasolid you sure will lose the mates between the parts but you would still be able to convert the assembly to V19 with all the parts at their respective places. I'm not sure about this but I think with some license you have a feature for automatically adding mates. Not sure if it exist for V19 though.

A small detail for converting files you need to have the original templates from solid edge in the default template folder.

Hope it helps

Patrick

Thanks Patrick

Course u can save assemblies in parasolid at their
respective places, that`s helpfull, but thing is all of it is .part, without any .psm
I worked on self-supported construction based on sheet metal, among thousands of files only few was .part, so after months of work, don`t like to do everything from the beginning just due versions mess up`s...
Nevertheless, Tnank you all
Regards

saving an assembly as parasolid and then re-opening in V19 will create a new part file for EACH and EVERY component in the assembly - even if that component is used 10 times you will get 10 different part files.

The moral of this story is that having different versions of SE in your supply chain is almost at bad as having different CAD packages.

Which is why whenever someone talks about changing CAD packages to match their supply chain, I mention that you still need to control version. (As well as all the other issues).
